Once again Cece Giannotti brings us his tight combination of Rock Ballad
Acoustic sounds and impressionistic, emotion evoking poetry. This time the
very patch work structure of the memories and journeys recounted, are less
immediately intoxicating; but pull the listeners feet first into a world
of positive learning and colours of personal experiences. Somehow the musicians
of the group have managed to sew together their ideas to create a flowing
quilt-work.
The opening song on the album “Black and Blue” with the familiar
sounds of the singer/songwriters sensitive emotionality and love of sylistic
fusion. This becomes evident as the album progresses through a completely independent
oasis of jazz guitars, funk rhythms and Indian themes, in pieces such as “Mitakuyeh” and “Red
Horse”, which echo Indian influences, which Cece had evidently been captured
by.
“Mi Barrio” is a perfect example of how a persons roots are also
what they have become, the dreams, the poetry and warmth of the music are given
reason in time and space through songs like this.
The albums fresh and positive sounds born in the waters of personal encounters
and love affairs, this is reinforced in his ballads “ The Chain is Breaking”, “Izabel” and “Two
Worlds Collide”, songs which recall common human experiences.
Listening more than once to this album creates a relationship within which the
layers of it adopt a life of their own, deepening in meaning each time, from
the most physical to the highest spiritual level.
Recent airplay has come from Radio 2's Bob Harris, on his Friday and Saturday
show. He was particularly fond of Sunstation's opening song "Black and Blue".
